I am very interested in both schools and plan to apply to both in the upcoming months. How would you compare the schools, specifically the admissions process and the toughness to be admitted to the schools. I plan to apply early decision to one of these schools. Is there a better likelihood of getting into one over the other depending on which I would apply early decision to? Thank you very much!

Answer 1 :
W&L admits 19% of applicants. W&M admits 34%. The high school records of the admitted applicants are virtually equal. I do not have early decision information.
Answer 2 :
Washington & Lee accepts about 20% of its applicants, but about 40% of those who apply early decision, so applying early decision gives you an advantage. William & Mary accepts about 35% of its applicants, but about 50% of its early decision applicants. So applying early gives you an advantage at both schools, but more of an advantage at Washington & Lee. Being an in-state resident will give you an advantage at W&M; being a minority will give you an advantage at W&L. If you haven't visited both schools, you should because they have very different settings and student bodies, based on what we saw during our visits.
