Well I'll be attending college in the fall (Western Washington University) but for now I'm still a senior in high school. The weather can be all over the place. I live about 30 minutes from Seattle and the winters are mild to cold. Lots of rain and sometimes snow (a lot this year!). The summer is generally 70-80 degrees but once in awhile we get to the high 80's or low 90's but thats not very often. However, thats for western washington. Eastern WA across the mountains is like another state. Very cold winters, lots of snow. Very hot summers. A lot of farmland. The two main state universities are UW, which is located in Seattle and WSU which is in Pullman. We're kind of known as an "outdoor" state. Not sure if that makes sense but there is lots of hiking, camping, snowboarding, skiing, boating, etc. I usually go to Crystal Mountain to snowboard. We have Mt. Rainer which is over 14,000 feet tall. there are no actual ski/snowboard resorts there, but I know people who have gone there to just ride back country.
Answer 2 :
I graduated from Wash. State University. But that is in eastern Washington, so the weather is completely different then the Puget Sound area. But I did grow up, and currently live, in the Seattle area. WSU is a fantastic experience. It is a true college town, so you have a great identity with the school. The weather in the Puget Sound area is very mild. It doesn't really snow much in the winter. Mostly I remember getting 2-3 days where it would snow 1-2", but be melted by noon. In the summer the temperature rarely gets above 90°. It doesn't really rain as much as people think, but it isn't sunny that often either. It is overcast a lot. In eastern Washington, it is not mild. Lots of snow in the winter, and hot summers. The Cascade mountains separate the two environments.
Answer 3 :
no, but I wish I had!

Is Washington Heights safe for white college students

Is Washington Heights safe for white college students?
My girlfriend and I just moved to the 193rd street/Audubon Ave area of Washington Heights, right near the high school and close to the big hill that takes you down into Inwood (about the only place we could afford). Nobody has given me any problems so far, but I was just wondering if I'm setting myself up for trouble or will I be safe in this neighborhood? I'm not trying to be racist at all. I don't have a problem with the hispanics...(If I did I wouldnt have moved here, duh!) but I'm just wondering if they will have a problem with me. People always get defensive if they feel the ethnic vibe of their neighborhood is being threatened.

Answer 1 :
I think you will be perfectly safe. Washington Heights / Inwood are much better than they were a few years ago.
Answer 2 :
wait...yup, I can hear it now, somebody is about to scream racism.
Answer 3 :
You will be safe. Washington Height's largest community is made of Dominicans and they are very friendly and kind. Like all areas in New York, there are isolated acts of crime, but I have walked up in my business suit at 9pm night in that same area without any problems and I look like I just popped out of a J Crew catalog.
Answer 4 :
The problem is you have folks living in the Heights for decades. They fear GENTRIFICATION of their neighborhood will cause the rents to skyrocket along with the prices in stores, thus forcing them out of Manhattan, and most likely New York. Just look what happened in Greenwich Village, totally gentrified.
Answer 5 :
There are murders in many areas of NYC. There are murders in Washington Heights. NYC is not known for safety. Perhaps you should stay inside your apartment until you feel comfortable going out. I would not live in Washington Heights! My and her daughter cousin were mugged in Washington Heights, when she lived up there.
Answer 6 :
I know quite a few white and asian people who have lived in WH for years without incident. Take the initiative to introduce yourself to some of your new neighbors (in spanish if appropriate) so that they know you're not an a_____, and so that you'll have people looking out for you in the event of an attempted robbery or something like that.
Answer 7 :
Gimme a break! NYC is the safest city in America, if you've read the papers lately. Crime occurs everywhere in the US, and NYC gets an unfair rap. I've lived in Washington Heights, and I used to work at Columbia U Med School. They are as safe as anyplace, and I'm a science geek from the Midwest.

Christians go to college? I thought that was too secular for them.
Answer 2 :
That is my fear.
Answer 3 :
Most Ivy League schools were founded by churches. This should be common knowledge to the idiots who ridicule Christians for being uneducated.

When he signs the fixes bill. A veteran!

Why do electoral college delegates never gather in Washington DC

Why do electoral college delegates never gather in Washington DC?
It concerns me a great deal.

Answer 1 :
Because there is no need to.
Answer 2 :
Because we vote as States. The delegates meet in the various state capitals. It keeps the independence of the process. I don't want my delegates within 1,000 miles of the Beltway.
Answer 3 :
There is no need for them to do so - why should it concern you?
Answer 4 :
The electoral college is an historical holdover from the18th century. Although I appreciate the tradition behind it, because I love history, especially American history. It really is time to do away with the electoral college. The President should be elected by popular vote in timely manner, not with constant recounts and controversies about ticket forms and hanging chads. Gore won the popular vote in 2000. We would not now be paying for all the mistakes that W made through negligence and outdated modes of thinking with respect to how wars have been fought since Vietnam. W learned NOTHING from Vietnam. I refused to vote for Hillary, because, with VERY FEW exceptions, people born before 1960 still think about war like it is still WWII. In guerrilla warfare, no one wins, a lot of people die needlessly, and are written off as "collateral damage."
Answer 5 :
They gather in their respective state capitals. The three electors representing Washington DC presumably gather somewhere in DC (maybe at city hall?) to cast their electoral votes.
Answer 6 :
Because the 12th Amendment states: "The Electors shall meet IN THEIR RESPECTIVE STATES, and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President........"
