How is the Washington D.C area for a college student

How is the Washington D.C area for a college student?
Hello, I am planning to attend George Washington University, and I want to know from those who have been there often or live there how is the area. I dont party or go "clubbing" so I dont mean in that way. For a serious student does D.C have a good atmosphere? Thanks!

Answer 1 :
For a college student it is nice, if you exercise common sense. The area around George Washington is very nice. It is close to the Metro (DC's subway system) and the downtown area. The National Mall and Smithsonian Museums are 10-15 minutes away from the campus. Pentagon City Mall and the Underground shops at Crystal City are a few Metro stops away. A nice area to hang out is Dupont Circle. There's a park with a fountain in the middle. Georgetown is nearby (though it's not accessible by the Metro). I also recommend hanging out in the Chinatown area. Avoid the area around Howard University-it is mugger's paradise. I've included a link to the Metro map.

As the above poster noted there is lots to do in DC. The place is full of museums and there are also lots of theaters if you want to see a show or something. DC is also a big college town so you can also do stuff at other colleges if your interested.
