The cheapest way is by bus. Check the online websites for Greyhound. It is not the most comfortable way to travel, but it is the cheapest. If you are a student, AMTRAK will sometimes cut you a break on the fare. Southwest also has cheap fares for flights for students and is having a July sale right now. You might check that out.

The cheapest way is to share a ride with someone going that way and you pick up half of the gas and tolls. If you're on campus now, spread the word that you'll be needing a lift, put up signs around campus, use craigslist, etc.
